Mr. Kim received his law degree from Santa Clara University School of Law. Prior to joining IPLA, Mr. Kim was a partner at International Practice Group where he ran the trademark and copyright practice. Mr. Kim was also associated with Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (now DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary), where he was in charge of the daily operations of the trademark and copyright department in the San Diego office. At Gray Cary, Mr. Kim counseled clients regarding trademark, copyright, licensing, false advertising, trade secret and right of publicity issues. Mr. Kim sought protection of trademarks and copyrights through federal and foreign registration and enforced these rights through various administrative, judicial and non-judicial methods. Mr. Kim also drafted and negotiated numerous reseller, distributor, vendor, software services, joint venture and intellectual property license agreements. Mr. Kim has provided service to clients in a broad range of industries, including computer hardware and software, Internet, diamond grading, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, mortgage lending, medical device, entertainment, education, clothing, retail establishments, and restaurants.
Mr. Kims practice at IPLA focuses on intellectual property protection and enforcement (except patents), as well as drafting and negotiating license agreements. Mr. Kim secures trademark protection for clients through federal and foreign trademark registration. As part of an overall intellectual property protection strategy, Mr. Kim also advises clients regarding the enforcement of their intellectual property rights and is actively involved in enforcement efforts, which can range from sending cease and desist letters to litigation in federal or state court. Mr. Kim also regularly drafts and negotiates reseller, distributor, vendor, joint venture, trademark and copyright license agreements for clients involved in various industries.
Mr. Kim has managed several lawsuits in federal and state courts involving trademark and copyright infringement, unfair competition, false advertising, trade secret misappropriation, breach of contract, and other civil litigation matters.
